Description
London in the 1930s is a city of contrasts. While Britain’s economy is mired in the Great Depression, the capital city is booming, doubling in size on the ground; new suburbs and Art Deco factories spread into the countryside. Victorian slums are ripped down as the growing middle class aspire to live in the ideal homes of suburbia. The old London of market porters and Thames barges is disappearing in an era of motor cars, luxury, bright lights and glamour.
