Description

In the 1900s, women worked as housewives, domestic servants, farm labourers or nurses. Sixty years later, their world had been transformed. Household chores had given way to lipstick, shorter skirts and careers that had been exclusively for men.

This looks film looks at how women lived and worked, and the strides they made to gain equality with men. Highlights include: The Suffragette movement, adverts and shopping from the 1920s and 1930s, beauty contests and fashion in the 1950s and 1960s, women at Cambridge University, farm workers and fisher girls.
