Dip into our region's past at Cinema City

Cinema City and Timereel have teamed up to offer you the chance to watch 'On Eagles' Wings: The American Air Force in WWII in Colour' on Saturday mornings during April. These film screenings are at 11.30am each week, and every month, there is a new archive film to enjoy.

On Eagles' Wings tells the story of the Mighty 8th USAAF division, who were based in East Anglia during World War II. The documentary looks back at the airmens' lives in our region – told through original archive colour film, much of which was shot by the US airmen themselves. Colour film was very rare and expensive at that time, so it was only the Americans who could afford it.

The footage includes real gems such as Clark Gable – who at the time was a Captain – flying on bombing runs into Germany. The film also features many of the aircraft in operation during World War II including B17s, Spitfires and Lancasters, and even the planes of the Luftwaffe.

“Watching 'On Eagles' Wings' is a wonderful way to celebrate East Anglia's longstanding connection with the US Army Air Force” explains Andrew Gray, MD of Timereel and director of the documentary.

Tickets for the screening are a special reduced rate of £3 and are available in advance from Cinema City, by calling 0871 704 2053 or visiting their website http://www.picturehouses.co.uk/. Tickets will also be available at the box office on the day of the screening.
